Wonderful Post Michael,
Fascinating to think of the influence of technology on the physiology of our brains. It makes me wonder how were our brains changed by other technological milestones.
I'm sitting at a very old antique table typing this on my laptop. I've been told the table is 300 years old. So that means it was made by hand in a time before electricity! A time when everything was made by hand. The only thing mass produced at that time were books. I imagine, the people that made the table never read one.
Along the lines of technology and the brain. Here is an ominous video that explores the ethics of cutting edge Biotech research with direct implications on how brains and computers physically interface.

Hi Michael, I think you are spot on, that is not love and possibly not even attachment, but a wound crying out. The wound of having lost complete touch with one's essence and looking for it on the outside where it can never be found. It is heart-wrenching and yet I think most of us have felt it to some degree. And it is just that wound which sends us on our quest to discover the truth of who we really are. I'd steer her to look within herself and find the beauty she saw in him, within herself. Because, in truth, whatever she saw in her beloved, is just a reflection of herself projected out. I've been there myself and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. It was the door that led me in to discover the love within. It's a great topic. Love.

Great post (once again) my friend!

On the topic of getting one's mind off of oneself, I love Guruji's "recipe" for depression:

"Just go on thinking "What about me? What about me?"

...So simply illustrative. And of course his antidote for depression is service.

Hi, Michael,

I just read through your blog, and have not yet explored the links. I agree with your remarks about depression and appreciate that you don’t condemn medication across the board. I guess we know that the geniuses you mention suffered, but do we know that they had depression, the illness? Probably not, since even today we don’t know what depression is: there is no test for it, no known cause, no known cure.

Inspiring sermon, as usual, Michael.

I have cast aside despair and I choose to BE on the just side of history, on the positive side of all the problems ~ ALL ~ the SOLUTION side. We were born to change, not stay the same. Thank-you Michael ~ Colleen

"How often do I struggle to follow my own advice?" Words to take to heart...........

You might find this interesting: Guruji said that one of the last impressions to leave us (before we are empty/ free/ unbounded/ unconditioned/ etc etc) is the dynamic that: keeps us from doing what we know is good for us (following our own advice)/ keeps us doing things we know are bad for us.

Once this dynamic is conquered, completion of the goal is very quick............

But isn't that the crux of it, right there? Really not quite in our control..............

Of course, all too many people lack basic knowledge of what is good for them, or realization of so many things which are bad for them.........they lack that discrimination, which is one of the key first steps on the path.............

Everyone is seeking, only a fortunate few have come to identify themselves as seekers.............and there the (conscious) path begins.........

Hello dear jalo,

Thank you so much for reading my post and your comments. Insofar as your battle with what you call "self cherishing": although you didn't go into detail, I pray you will keep in mind that no one - no one - deserves your love and respect more than you yourself. So the challenge of course, as with everything else in life, is to keep this too, in balance...enough, but not too much. I'd love to hear from you again if you wish. Tell me about yourself, and if you care to, you can find out more about me on my website at: http://becomewhoyouare.us/. There are more blog posts there too. Perhaps a good way to stay in touch. I close with a quote that I think you will enjoy, which touches on the subject of self cherishing, and keeping that in balance. It's from Nisargadatta Maharaj:

   "Love says: 'I am everything.'
    Wisdom says: 'I am nothing.'
    Between the two
    my life flows."

    Nisargadatta Maharaj

Jalo, Please be kind to yourself,
